Empowering Amadeus’ competitive advantage with cloud-native decision making on Quarkus

    When SLAs directly affect your revenue stream, performance, scalability and predictability of your systems is on the top of your requirements list. At Amadeus, a global travel technology company, we operate high-throughput OLTP decisioning services with aggressive low-latency requirements. Meeting these constraints while moving to the cloud with a traditional monolithic JVM-based architecture proved to be challenging. Recent innovations in the Java ecosystem enable us to implement applications with built-in, cloud-native characteristics. Technologies like GraalVM, Quarkus and Kogito realize fast and memory efficient microservices, while retaining the convenience of using a battle-tested rule engine like Drools.

    In this breakout session, we'll:
    • Show how we migrated an Amadeus production rules system from a traditional JVM-based architecture into a set of Kogito & Quarkus-based microservices.
    • Discuss how these technologies help us meet and improve our SLAs, and increase our competitive business advantage.
    • Demonstrate the solution in action, demonstrating start-up times, memory footprint, scalability, monitoring and management of the system on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform.
